I think we should have a central database of IMEI nos' like CPLC, where buyer can call on that number and tell teh IMEI no of the telephone and find out if it's stolen or not.

and anyone who looses his phone should call them and register his IMEI no as stolen...

how does that sound?

Yes thats sounds great i went to aq mobilink customer support center and they told me the Ime code blocking facility is in the pipeline and eventually the facility will provided thing is unless the Pta issues an order to all companies to provide this facility no company will provide as this will incur another expenditure on them besides there has to be a central database for the cell ime no's like the Cplc other wise that cell phone will still work on all networks barring the one network on which you have blocked your set.

well these are the good steps...
but we cant fully overcome this problem......
since there are so many ppl out there that are doing such kinda things.....
i lost my 8310 a few months ago...i called to my number and the woh got the mob. just tried to cancel the call...and i had to block my sim card..
so this is the situation all over the country.....
i dont think this problem can b stoped

well yeh true, problem cannot be stopped 100% but it can be minimized, as if the phone blocking facility comes so the person who steals will also get little backoff, or something

well i visited CPLC as my university project those ppl were really co-operative and helped us and gave the information but these ppl clearly mentioned that these mobile service providers dun't lock these IME wht ever code becuz if they do tht they will be cutting off their one customer not think how much it will rise the in large number but as u ppl r saying tht its in pipeline then lets cross our fingers and wait for the action then.

jus for a tip lock ur mobile with security codes tht will help u out a lot yeah... if GOD forbide ur mobile is lifted then it will not be use for even for them..... atleast one will be satisfy tht aghar usnay use nahi kia to kisi aur nay be use nahi kia

well remember this IME locking is available in other parts of the world but not in pakistan. :S thts poor

well sapheroth, as u said about spum strip, so i have nokia 7650! its too heavy! chances for neckache,

there are some preventions,!
[1] Dont accept a call if your in bus, train!
[2] dont accept sms or call on any road, if call is really imp then accept in the safe place or building, [3] always change your tracks
[4] dont bring your cells with you for small purpose like to buy loaves, to buy cold drink from nearly store,
[5] never play games on out side
[6] if possible put it in to your breast pocket,
[7] on strange areas !speed up!
[8] if your gona sell your cell in market bring a school bag with you and put your cell into it safely,
[9] if going outside, put your cell into silent- only vibrating,
[10] and finally never ever stay on road on any where to help some one [telling address] etc,

Please write down your's serial / Imei number and make a request "This handset is stolen please contact on my other number 0300 ######" and put that paper back of your mobile Battery, because thevies dont waste time in checking batteries but a shopkeeper do. i hope it will work. so try it! instead of keeping a gun with yourself

yea that might work but it seems some minister got his cell phone stolen as after dec 31 2004 second hand cell phones will note be sold or purchased and if any shopkeeper is found in possession of them his shop will be sealed and all his inventory will be frozen. and The minister has also requested the cell phone co's to install servers to block the Imie no's

lets see what happens
